Week 1-2: The Comic Project

The Crooked Man
Illustration: Charlotte Wilding
Graphic Design: Ryan Thompson
Initial sketches and plans at an A5 scale. Together we were able to work out a basic idea for the composition of each page.

An initial design for 'the crooked man', as well as the cat and mouse that appear in the original story.

A slightly refined version of the design, which had the character's clothing appear more worn out with jagged ends and stitches.

I decided that the original colour palette I planned to use for the comic was too dark, changing instead to make it brighter and adding a more saturated colour. This would make the individual elements within the panels easier to view.

I also removed the moon from the bottom panel, deciding instead to set the comic at sunrise, which would tie the later pages, which had lighter backgrounds, in better with the rest of the story. Removing the moon and the stars would also leave Ryan more space to add the text of the comic.
