The Chair
I completed three covers, one for each artist / genre. After feedback I completed a third focusing more on thumbnailing and ideas.
I began by researching the works of each artist that we would be replicating the style of, and decided which genre would fit each, from children's book, psychological horror and science-fiction. These are the images I took inspiration from for each artist.
Anne Yvonne Gilbert - Children's Book
Charles Keeping - Psychological Horror
Brad Holland - Science-Fiction
Three Covers
Initial ideas and thumbnails I completed for the first three covers. I had ideas for the chair that would appear on the children's book cover and the psychological horror cover, however it took longer to come up with a design for the science fiction cover, especially one I could paint in the style of the chosen artist.
I then practiced using the same materials as each artist while attempting to replicate aspects of their work
Anne Yvonne Gilbert - Coloured Pencils
Charles Keeping - Mixed media. Though I chose to practice replicating his works in ink as that was an area I felt I was weaker in
Brad Holland - Acrylic paint
From this work I created three covers, I added the fonts digitally, and edited the text slightly to better fit their respective genres.
The fonts I used for each: Psychological Horror - Didot, with parts taken out of the text making it appear damaged. Science Fiction - Courier New, with circles added to replicate the circuitry seen in the rest of the cover. Children's Book - STIX Two Text. I wanted to make the font easy to read, however added a slight blur behind the text to make it stand out less against the softer background.

However, after receiving feedback on the work I had produced so far I decided to redo one of the covers. This time I would focus much more on the design process, whereas before I had been more focused on creating a final piece.
I created two lots of thumbnails, the first in black and white as I tried to work out what aspects I wanted to carry over from my first attempt at the cover. On the second page I added colour. Upon reviewing the artists works I decided to make these thumbnails and compositions a lot busier and detailed.

I decided which idea I would use for my final cover, the busy composition and framing of the chair, the focal point in the piece, being closer to one side of the page than the centre reminded me of the works of Anne Yvonne Gilbert I had looked at so far.
Before I began work on my final piece I decided to do some studies of how the artist illustrates plants along with other features of her works.
The final piece. Using the font STIX Two Text with a slight blur around it.
